Ruth Aguilar

Ruth is a native New Yorker of Cuban and Mexican descent. She has been writing sketch comedy for four years, heavily influenced by the innovation of Lucille Ball, Carol Burnett, Tina Fey and Wanda Sykes. Her scripts blend equal parts drama with a sharp and intelligent wit that speaks to women and men of varying cultural backgrounds. Sitcom inspirations include I Love Lucy, Superstore and Nurse Jackie while her flair for writing intense drama is influenced by Aaron Sorkin and Shonda Rhimes. Powerful and evolving female protagonists recur in her work—women who lead with passion and courage. Issues which drive her work focus on political, socioeconomic and religious themes which push the envelope and inspire movement in this ever changing and unpredictable world.

Shauna Bloom

Shauna is based in New York City on the Upper East Side and hails from Los Angeles, where she studied in Corey Mandell’s professional screenwriting workshops. She is an author of several award winning flash fiction and poetry pieces and has written two short films: “Ella and Me” and The Lady with the Lamp (based on Annie Moore, Ellis Island’s first immigrant). Bloom’ has been inspired by the writing of Vince Gilligan, Alan Ball, Tina Fey and Jenji Kohan, and her English roots account for an obsession with all things BBC. As a teacher, Shauna is passionate about writing for (and helping) children and young adults. Emotionally resonate women struggling with self doubt, and issues involving education and family conflict are often at the center of Bloom’s stories.

I was extremely pleased with the two scenes written by Ruth Aguilar and Shauna Bloom (SOS) for me to add to my professional reel. The scenes were excellently written and the production value of them are sure to be top-notch.

Both scenes were compelling, captured my essence, and really highlighted roles that showcased my archetypes.
